Any member of Gedling Ramblers is welcome to contribute photos to this gallery. If you would like to contribute, please proceed as follows:
Go to www.flickr.com and click on 'Sign Up'
Give a First and Last name (real or use an alias) and an email address. The email address must be a
real one because flickr will send an email to validate your account is being set up by a real person. For birth date you can give a real or false one, just make sure you're
over 18. Click 'Continue'
Flickr will send an email with a link in it and after you click the link you become a member. You will get a further email to
confirm you're a flickr member.
Upload a few photos. Here's how to do that: On your flickr home page at top right there is an icon of a cloud with a black arrow on it. Click that and a screen
appears on which you can either drag and drop photos or if you click 'Choose photos and videos to upload' you get a 'File Open..' kind of dialog. The best size of photo
for the purpose is around 2 to 8 megabytes. Make sure the visibility is set to publicly visible. Give the photo a suitable title. Call it something meaningful
e.g. 'Sherwood Forest 28th Sept 2019' not just a file name like DCF8012.JPG. You can change the title after uploading it. To get an overview of all the photos you have uploaded go to menu item You/Photostream. This shows an array of thumbnail images of all your photos and it is called your Photostream.
Next, apply to join the Gedling Ramblers group. You only need to do this once. On your flickr home page at the top is a search box. Type in Gedling Ramblers and choose 'Search groups'
from the drop-down list. When you see the right group, click 'Join'. That will result in the Gedling Webmaster getting an automatic email from flickr to say someone wants to join the
group. If you used a pseudonym when you joined flickr then you will need to let the Webmaster know in advance that e.g. 'Mick Mousse' is really you otherwise the Webmaster will not grant membership. Assuming the Webmaster grants membership then you'll get an email confirming your membership of the Gedling Ramblers flickr group and then you're all set to go.
After getting the email confirming that you are a member of the Gedling Ramblers flickr group you can then add the photos that you uploaded to the group pool. Go to your Photostream and click on a thumbnail. On the page that displays the photo it shows underneath various details about the photo such as title, description etc. There is a box that initially says 'This photo is currently not in any groups'. Click 'Add to group' and then click the Gedling Ramblers group in the next box that opens up. Wait for the group to be ticked and then click 'Done'. The photo will then automatically appear in the group pool and people navigating from the photo page of the Gedling Ramblers web site will be able to see it.
Some tips:
Big photos are better than little photos. If possible avoid using photos less than 1000 pixels wide.
On the upload page you can assign a title, description and group to multiple images in one go by using Control A to select them all and then click on the appropriate link on the left bar.
Try to preserve the EXIF data intact i.e. the information embedded in the photo e.g. the date the picture was taken. This will allow people to view the photos in date order.
